Question

What are the water conservation guidelines within the Village?

Answer

In order to promote public environmental awareness, good husbandry, good conservation practices and to preserve potable water supplies, the use of the Village’s potable water for outdoor watering of landscape and lawns is regulated.

Details

The water status regulates the use of outside water for the purposes of watering landscape material. Watering is strictly enforced. To check current water system status, see signs posted on main streets in Algonquin or check online

Restrictions

  • Conservation (Green):  Outside water use is permitted except for watering landscaping and lawns, which is prohibited between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
  • Even/Odd (Yellow):  Even addresses may only water on even calendar days and odd addresses may only water on odd calendar days, before 9:00 a.m. and after 6:00 p.m.
  • Even/Odd 6AM - 9AM (Orange):  Even addresses may only water on even calendar days and odd addresses may only water on odd calendar days from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
  • Restricted (Red):  No outside water use is allowed at anytime.  This includes washing vehicles, power washing, and watering landscaping.

Enforcement

The Village has a zero tolerance policy. If you are watering illegally, you will be issued a ticket and fined $100.00 for the first offense. Village employees are authorized to enforce water regulations at all times.

Surcharge Rates

Surcharge rates are in effect year round.  Billing rates are tripled for water consumption over 20,000 gallons per month. The billing rate will appear on the water bill as Conservation Surcharge. Check your water bill to see what your average consumption is, or check your water meter to monitor water consumption levels.
