About the Planning and Zoning Commission

The Planning and Zoning Commission was created to carry out the duties of a Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals. This Commission is charged with preparing and recommending, to the Village Board, a Comprehensive Plan as well as reviewing and issuing recommendations to the Village Board on Planned Unit Developments, preliminary and final plats, hear appeals relating to the Algonquin Zoning Ordinance, and conduct public hearings. This Commission also make recommendations to the Village Board regarding variations, special uses, and municipal boundaries.

The Commission consists of a chairperson and six (6) members appointed by the Village President, with the advice and consent of the Village Board.  The Commission meets the second Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at Ganek Municipal Center, 2200 Harnish Drive, Algonquin.

Residents are encouraged to submit an application to serve on one of the village’s many boards and commissions. Applications can be submitted to the Village Clerk’s Office below.  Appointments are made by the entire Village Board annually or when vacancies occur.
