COMPENSATION:                $16.00/hour or D.O.Q.

HOURS PER WEEK:             Part Time/Seasonal, but may be scheduled for up to 25 hours per week, including nights and weekends.

Hey high school and college students - looking for a fun and exciting summer job?   The Village of Algonquin is hiring for the position of Tot/Preschool Swim Instructor at the Lions Armstrong Memorial Pool, and we want YOU to join our team!  This part-time, seasonal gig is perfect if you love working with people and want to spend your summer by the pool.

As a Swim Instructor for children aged 6 months to 5 years, you'll be using the Starfish Swim Program to guide students through important milestones and benchmarks. This position involves teaching group lessons, one-on-one sessions, and Parent/Child swim lessons, focusing on building confidence and safety in the water.  In addition to teaching, you'll be responsible for administering first aid, when necessary, and may assist with Guest Services tasks as needed.  This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working with children, has strong communication skills, and is eager to make a positive impact in the community through swim instruction.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education:       Must have a High School Diploma (or currently enrolled). Starfish Swim Instructor Training/Certification and First Aid or equivalent certifications are required prior to start of the pool season.  Must be at least 16 years of age.

Skills:            Must have strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.  You should be able to give clear, professional, and enthusiastic instructions while interacting with guests, parents, and staff.  Whether in-person or over the phone you’ll need to be comfortable working with people and building positive relationships.  You should be able to handle situations with maturity and keep things in perspective, even when things get tough, while dealing with a variety of ages and abilities in our Swim Lesson program.  Experience working with the early childhood age and any equivalent combination of training including behavior management is a plus.  Most importantly, we want someone who’s friendly, approachable, and ready to help.

Swim Instructor training will be provided on specific dates and must be attended in order to work.  Successful completion of the Starfish Swim Instructor certification is mandatory for the position.
