Water & Sewer Utility Billing
The Village of Algonquin provides water and sewer services to residents and businesses in the community. Utility billing services and staffing are managed by the Village's Finance Department, while maintenance of the Village's water and sewer infrastructure is managed by the Public Works Department.
Start or Stop Water & Sewer Utility Services
New residents and businesses must complete the Start Service Form to establish water and sewer utility services. For those moving to a new location, please complete the Stop Service Form to have a final water bill issued to your forwarding address.
Water and sewer users may monitor and manage water usage near real-time through the Water Meter Customer Portal that is integrated with the software of the Village's water meters. Customers have the ability to access their water usage and setup email and text alerts for high consumption to meet cost-saving goals and detect possible leaks.
Learn how you can access your water meter to monitor your water usage.
Although the Public Works Department is responsible for repair and maintenance of the Village's water infrastructure, it is the customer's responsibility to detect and repair leaks in their home.
If you have experienced a larger than anticipated bill, please consider potential causes such as a humidifier (cold weather months), outdoor watering (warm weather months), water softener, and overnight guests.
Often, most customers experience a larger than usual bill due to a running toilet, which can go unnoticed due to the silent nature of these leaks. If you suspect a running toilet is the cause of your higher bill, here are some steps you can take to check:
- Add a small amount of food coloring into the tank of your toilet.
- Wait approximately 30 minutes and check the water in the toilet bowl. If it has changed color, a leak is occurring and the components inside the tank will need to be replaced to resolve the leak.
Algonquin is committed to ensuring high-quality water for all its residents. Below, you can access detailed water quality reports to stay informed about the safety and standards of your drinking water, as well as a water hardness zone map to better understand the mineral content of water in different areas of Algonquin.
- Water Quality Reporting: The Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) is an annual water quality report that lists regulated contaminants in drinking water, as required by the Safe Drinking Water Act. Algonquin provides water quality reports yearly to inform residents about their water safety.
- Water Hardness: The Village of Algonquin monitors water hardness from its wells, providing a Water Hardness Map for residents to set their water softeners accurately.
