Political Sign Guidelines in Algonquin
The Village of Algonquin has established guidelines for the display of political signs to ensure they are used appropriately and in a way that maintains safety and visibility in our community. Whether you are a resident, property owner, or involved in a political campaign, it’s important to understand these basic rules.
Key Points to Know:
-
Timing: Political signs can be displayed up to 30 days before an election or referendum and must be removed within 7 days after the event.
-
Placement: Signs must be placed on private property and should not be positioned in public areas, such as streets or sidewalks. They should also be set back from the public right-of-way.
-
Size Limits:
- In residential areas, signs should be small to medium in size, with specific limits on height and surface area.
- In non-residential areas, larger signs are permitted, but there are still restrictions to ensure they do not obstruct views or interfere with public safety.
-
Height Limits:
- Residential signs should not exceed 4 feet in height.
- Non-residential signs can be up to 6 feet tall.
Compliance and Removal
Signs that are placed incorrectly or do not comply with these guidelines may be removed by the Village. If a sign is removed, it will be stored for up to 5 working days, after which it may be discarded.
If you have questions or need more information about displaying political signs, please contact the Community Development Department at (847) 658-5819.
