The Village of Algonquin, IL

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has announced that the Village of Algonquin has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its Fiscal Year 2024–2025 budget, with special recognition in performance measures. This marks the twenty-first consecutive year that the Village has earned this distinction.

To receive this award, government entities must meet nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation, which includes demonstrating a high level of proficiency in four scoring categories. This achievement highlights the Village’s adherence to best practices in governmental budgeting and fiscal management.

“Our annual budget showcases our commitment to transparent financial reporting and strategic service delivery,” said Village President Debby Sosine. “This approach allows us to enhance the quality of life for our residents, attract visitors to our Village, and maintain stable tax levels.”

In 2023, Algonquin was among approximately 80 municipalities in Illinois and over 1,700 entities nationwide to receive the GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award.

Algonquin’s Fiscal Year 2024 – 2025 budget represents a balanced $101.3 million financial plan, featuring a property tax rate at its lowest level since 2011 and $48.3 million in capital infrastructure investment. The budget document is available for viewing online at www.algonquin.org/finance.
