Welcome to the website for the Village of Algonquin!

Refuse & Recycling - Groot

Residential refuse, recycling, and yard waste collection services are provided to the Village of Algonquin through a contractual agreement with Groot Industries. These services are contracted to provide residents with consistent and cost-effective means for waste removal.

Residents having a refuse, recycling, or yard waste issue should first call Groot at 847-734-6400. If the issue is not resolved, residents should then contact the Village online or by phone at 847-658-2700.

Solid Waste Rates & Additional Services

Algonquin has a volume-based refuse rates system called "pay-as-you-throw" that provides economic rewards for reducing waste. Residents are charged for the amount of trash they generate in the same way we get billed for the amount of electricity, gas, and other utilities that we use. That means "the more you recycle, the less you pay." Recycling is provided to all residential addresses at no cost. Stickers are available for purchase at local retailers and are listed online.
