Algonquin Celebrates Grand Reopening of James B. Wood Park
The Village of Algonquin is thrilled to announce the grand reopening of James B. Wood Park, a significant milestone in the Village’s ongoing commitment to enhancing recreational amenities and the quality of life for all Algonquin residents.
The latest James B. Wood Park upgrades feature a new playground, basketball court, and pavilion. The nature-themed playground has been designed to be inclusive, ensuring that children of all abilities can play and enjoy together.
“Our goal was to make James B. Wood Park a unique and memorable place for all,” said Village President Debby Sosine. “This park and others under construction feature a strong thematic influence and inclusivity, ensuring that all children can play together in a welcoming environment.”
State Senator Don DeWitte and Representative Suzanne Ness secured State funding for the James B. Wood Park project, which was instrumental in making this park a reality.
“I applaud the Village of Algonquin for prioritizing its park system, acknowledging the multiple benefits of public parks, and for seeking community input into improvements that will improve the community’s infrastructure,” said State Senator Don DeWitte. “The improvements to James B. Wood Park will provide active and passive recreational opportunities for village residents and visitors for years to come.”
“I want to congratulate the Village of Algonquin on a beautiful and unique park that will be enjoyed by families for years to come,” said State Representative Suzanne Ness. “I appreciate the cooperation between state and local partners; I am proud to be a part of that.”
In April 2021, the Village Board approved a new 10-year Parks and Recreation Master Plan, which provided the Village with a comprehensive roadmap to improve and enhance the Village's park and recreation offerings.
This year alone, the Village is enhancing 20 percent of Algonquin’s park system, setting the stage for a vibrant and active community for years.
