Algonquin Community Groups Secure Funding for Mineral Springs Restoration
The Algonquin Village Board recognized the Algonquin Garden Club and the Algonquin Historic Commission for their total contributions of $22,500 for the restoration of the Mineral Springs site in Towne Park.
The Mineral Springs site, which is located on the south banks of Crystal Creek near Jefferson Street in Towne Park, was one of the most popular artesian wells along the Algonquin river bluffs dating back to the original settlement of the area. Work to restore the original concrete at the site and install interpretative signage will be performed along with scheduled improvement to Towne Park in 2024.
“We are truly grateful for the exceptional dedication and efforts of the Algonquin Garden Club, the Algonquin Historic Commission, and our supportive grant partners. Their collective contributions of $22,500 towards the restoration of the Mineral Springs site in Towne Park highlight our community's commitment to preserving our historical heritage” stated Debby Sosine, Village President.
To help finance the improvements to the Mineral Springs site, the Algonquin Garden Club successfully secured two grants for this project. A $10,000 grant was awarded from the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Historic Preservation Grant program, which provides financial support to projects in local communities that exemplify the mission of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution to promote historic preservation.
Additionally, the Algonquin Garden Club was awarded an $8,000 grant from the Schwemm Family Foundation, which supports preserving local history and culture.
The Algonquin Historic Commission has also agreed to contribute $4,500 of funding to this project.
“We are excited about the restoration work and park construction scheduled for next year, which will enhance the beauty and historical significance of Towne Park for our residents and visitors alike” stated Sosine.
